March 2018 Eugene MQG Meeting
We had a good attendance at this meeting, with 2 new members joining and 2 visitors welcomed.
Announcements:
Sew Day:
Our first sew day on February 17th was a success. Sounded like everyone had fun and the "quirks" of using our space for sewing and powering up the sewing machines and irons were all worked out. We also raised $90 for the local Alzheimer's association.
QuiltCon 2018:
Some of the members went to QuiltCon in Pasadena, CA and brought back stories and ideas they gathered. It sounds that the lectures and classes were good, and there were a LOT of quilts. Check out the MQG website to see some of the quilts and the winners.
Corvallis Meet-up:
The Corvallis MQG has reached out to ask about continuing our meetup this year. In years past, this has typically been a midday gathering of members of both guilds to network, share ideas, exchange swap items and enjoy a potluck. (Of course there is wine tasting available as well as we have met at the winery in Monroe. Nela is looking at the dates of June 23rd or June 30th, dependent upon what is available at the winery. The date will be finalized and announced at a later time. Members are encouraged to provide ideas for swap items to create and share. Send Nela or the EMQG an email with your ideas.
Quilts Beyond Borders:
Pat is involved with creating necklaces using metal bobbins where are to be sold at the Houston Quilt Market with proceeds going to Quilts Beyond Borders. This organization helps youth in need, Syrian refugees, persons with AIDS among others. Please bring any metal bobbins you no longer need to the April meeting or contact Pat if you are unable to attend.
Eugene MQG Banner:
Pat, Janice, and Linda are creating a banner for our guild. Work in progress was shown during tonight's meeting and so far is looking great! Thank you SO MUCH for your work on this project! Can't wait to see the completed banner, maybe to take with us to the Corvallis Meetup?...
UFO FQ Challenge:
Nine people completed the challenge this month.
There are 6 participants who have joined the challenge for the coming month. Good luck and can't wait to see the finished products!
Traveling Quilt Bee:
We enjoyed all of the additions to the traveling quilts this month! Amazing creations!
SKILL DEMO:
Pat J. presented a demo on sewing CURVES. She had some great examples and made it look super easy to sew. You will find some sites listed below which she offered for ideas.
Pointers: Use a SHARP BLADE. Make sure FABRIC is always RIGHT SIDE UP.

February 2018 Eugene MQG Meeting
We had a fun meeting seeing all of the creations added to the traveling bee quilts and the show and tell items! Check out the pictures further down on this page.
Nela called the meeting to order. We had 2 returning members who renewed, and 2 visitors attending tonight's meeting.
Announcements:
2/17/18 Sew Day 10am-4pm
Reminding those who wish to attend to bring their sewing machines, extension cords, surge protectors. Someone will need to bring an ironing board and iron. Cost is $10 for the day. We will also be collecting monetary donations to go to the charity we selected at an earlier meeting, the local Alzheimer's organization.
QuiltCon 2018 Pascadena, CA
There are 5 members who will be attending this year! We look forward to the pictures and stories they will have upon returning.
Our QuiltCon quilt has been completed and sent. Thank you again to everyone who volunteered their time and skills in creating this wonderful quilt. It will be shown at QuiltCon and then will be sent to the Las Vegas MQG to help support the survivors of the shooting last year.
There is an opportunity to help victims of the Thomas Fires in Ventura, CA and information has been posted on the VenturaMQG website. Nela brought hard copies of the requested block, Perkiomen Valley Block, and she made some to show. Please check out one of the flyers or on the link above for more details on specifics of the block and where to mail them when completed. Block deadline is March 15!
Financial Report:
Susan presented the treasurer's report for February 2018. We will need to bring in more money to continue to sustain our guild in the future.
One idea, which began this evening was to bring items for purchase by members. This could include fabric (yardage, scraps, precuts), quilting books and/or magazines in good shape, patterns, anything related to quilts which may be of interest to our members. The money would be collected at the time of purchase and would be deposited into the EMQG account.
There was also discussion about moving our mailbox to a different location which may be less costly.
UFO FQ Challenge:
Members who wanted to participate placed their project statement and fat quarter into our fish bowl and later stood up in front of the members to announce the project they would complete before next month's meeting. Those who complete their project will bring it to next month's meeting for all to see to confirm it's completion, and then will be entered into a drawing to win the fat quarters collected at the last months meeting.
Traveling Quilt Bee:
16 members are participating in the traveling quilt bee. All were shown and the additions discussed, which was fun to hear and beautiful to see what everyone added to the medallions.

Kim shared a demo on making blocks on point. She discussed several methods, stressing to have the straight of grain on the edge as much as possible. Members were encouraged to bring any projects with blocks on point to share next month.
