March 2018 Eugene MQG Meeting

We had a good attendance at this meeting, with 2 new members joining and 2 visitors welcomed.

Announcements:

Sew Day:
Our first sew day on February 17th was a success.  Sounded like everyone had fun and the "quirks" of using our space for sewing and powering up the sewing machines and irons were all worked out.  We also raised $90 for the local Alzheimer's association.

QuiltCon 2018:
Some of the members went to QuiltCon in Pasadena, CA and brought back stories and ideas they gathered.  It sounds that the lectures and classes were good, and there were a LOT of quilts.  Check out the MQG website to see some of the quilts and the winners.

Corvallis Meet-up:
The Corvallis MQG has reached out to ask about continuing our meetup this year.  In years past, this has typically been a midday gathering of members of both guilds to network, share ideas, exchange swap items and enjoy a potluck.  (Of course there is wine tasting available as well as we have met at the winery in Monroe.  Nela is looking at the dates of June 23rd or June 30th, dependent upon what is available at the winery. The date will be finalized and announced at a later time.  Members are encouraged to provide ideas for swap items to create and share.  Send Nela or the EMQG an email with your ideas.

Quilts Beyond Borders:
Pat is involved with creating necklaces using metal bobbins where are to be sold at the Houston Quilt Market with proceeds going to Quilts Beyond Borders.  This organization helps youth in need, Syrian refugees, persons with AIDS among others.  Please bring any metal bobbins you no longer need to the April meeting or contact Pat if you are unable to attend.

Eugene MQG Banner:
Pat, Janice, and Linda are creating a banner for our guild.  Work in progress was shown during tonight's meeting and so far is looking great!  Thank you SO MUCH for your work on this project!  Can't wait to see the completed banner, maybe to take with us to the Corvallis Meetup?...
