Defining Modern Quilting: Asymmetry

In modern quilting, the design element of Asymmetry is creating a balanced composition without making it symmetrical. This can be done by using one or more of the following: 
  • Altering the position of the axis 
  • Altering the number of objects on each side of the image 
  • Contrasting lights and darks or bright colors and dull colors 
  • Contrasting geometric shapes with organic shapes
