EMQG June 2021

Ken showed some of the new Tula Pink fabric ‘Curiouser and Curiouser’. Everyone agreed that it looks fun and fabulous.

Ken: Sent out the July block directions so check your email. No one sent in pictures of the June bug block so please make sure to do so for July.

Nelda Copsey informed us that the Lane County Fair is happening this year so anyone interested in submitting a quilt is invited (and encouraged) to participate. The new class this year #14 will be for modern style quilts. To register, go to www.atthefair.com. From the home page go to Participate -> Creative Exhibits -> Textiles -> Entry form

Entry deadline is July 6th; quilt drop off at Exhibition Hall at the fairgrounds is July 11th from 11:00am – 5:00 pm and July 12th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Judging day is July 14th. Quilts will need to be picked up July 26th from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Nelda would love some volunteer help for judging as well as before and during the fair. You can contact her at nlcopsey@gmail.com. 541 - 914-1610. If you help, she will provide a free ticket to the fair.

Show and tell:

Jenny: Completed two more tulips for the Corey Yoder sew along which goes until September.

Jill: Has been finishing projects this month

Red four patch with pomegranates for the back. For the border she used a walking foot and the binding was done by machine using the wandering stitch.

The Sunflower quilt top  was already completed and Jill found it on the EMQG table. Jill added the binding and plans to donate the quilt.

Bonnie: Dinosaur quilt for her son who picked out the panel. This was quilted by Nela.

Ken: Was contacted by someone who is selling a Brother Innovis 990D (D for Disney) sewing and embroidery machine. Machine is in good condition and all manuals are included. Let Ken know if you are interested.

Reminder: Next month museum/art inspired projects are due for show and tell.

Ken: Contacted the Garden Club to see if the building is opening up. Hasn’t heard back but we think it may not be until September. Until the Garden Club is open and available, we will continue to meet via Zoom.

Nela: Quiltcon will happen in 2022 in Phoenix. The theme for the Quiltcon 2022 Community Outreach Quilt Challenge will be ‘Angles’. The angles can be obtuse or acute but not 90 degrees! Quilts need to use at least two of the following Moda Bella solids: white, boysenberry, geranium, amelia orange, yellow and/or fig tree olive. The guild will need to decide if we will submit a quilt and register by October 31, 2021 so let Nela know if you are interested in working on it. This needs to be a twin sized quilt, the design will need to be agreed on and each member would then create a block (or two).

Jill informed us that making/designing a star follows a mathematical formula. She will send the info to Ken to send out to members.

Reminder: The next Slow Stitch in the park is Thursday, June 17th at 10:00am and our Zoom Sew Day will be the following Saturday, June 19th from 9:00am – 4:00om. Watch your email for the Zoom invite.
