EMQG August 2020 Meeting Recap

Welcome

Thanks to everyone who joined us at Sladden Park for an in-person meeting. About 20 EMQG members attended, and there was plenty of space for physically-distanced seating, plus a great view of everyone's Show and Tell.

QuiltCon Charity Quilt Challenge Update

Solid fabrics are hard to find in any store right now. Piece by Piece has one of the needed colors, but the rest of the colors are sold out locally. Word is that the soonest solids will be restocked is in November, so we will have to make-do with other fabrics that match the assigned colors (refer to Kona white, clementine, lapis, and peacoat). Use what you have, as long as it's close.

The theme is 'curves,' and you're welcome to make any curved block you want, any size you want, as long as it is a square. Blocks are due before or at the September meeting. We need at least 20 more blocks to proceed with making a top.

Facing Demonstration

Ken provided a demonstration on how to finish a quilt by facing. Photos and instructions will be included with Ken's email to EMQG members.

Mystery Quilt Blocks

This month there are 3 8" blocks offered - please choose TWO to make for your quilt. The remainder of the blocks and the layout will be revealed in September.

Several members brought Mystery Quilt show and tell.

Notebook Covers

We didn't do an August swap this year, but we did reveal the notebook covers that we wanted to do for a swap. We hope EMQG members will make one for themselves, or to gift to a friend. These are a great project for trying out new ideas - we'd love to see what you make! Ken will send links to free tutorials in his email.
