October 2019 Eugene MQG Meeting

Four guests joined us this meeting!  Welcome!

Announcements:

EMQG Retreat recap:  18 members and one spouse had a grand time this year at the retreat held at Big K Ranch.  We were productive, finishing 3 charity quilt tops, some completing a zipper case (Oh How Sweet zipper case-free tutorial) lead by Nela, and everyone working on individual projects.  The weather was mostly sunny, the food was tasty, and of course the view was spectacular!  We can't wait until next year!

Missy presented a Fat Quarter Shop gift card from members to Nela as a 'Thank you' for organizing the retreat.

2020 QuiltCon Charity Quilt:  The top was completed at the retreat and Denise S. has offered to quilt it.  We passed around a writing pad on which to add inspirational words which Denise can use in the quilting process.

Sew Day Saturday, November 2nd.  Last sew day this year.  $10/person, 10am-4pm.

The guild members voted on continuing Sew Days into 2020 and to have 5 dates including Saturdays and Sundays.

2020 Board Member Elections:

President:  Ken C.
Vice President:  Bonnie G.
Secretary:  Sorrel A.
Treasurer:  Linda D.
Photographer:  Janice H.

Missy made a motion to vote in all nominees.  Daisy seconded it.
Members present voted and it passed.  Congratulations to those elected and thank you for running! The new board members will start their term on January 1, 2020.

Info to share:
Julie Johnson and her sister offered space to stay at Quilt Con 2020.  Email EMQG for Julie's number and details.  Quilt Con will be held in Austin, TX, Feb 20-23, 2020.

Kim presented a picnic quilt to Nela as a thank you for being the EMQG President 2018 and 2019.  Members had made blocks and Kim spent time sewing it together and quilting it for her.

Monthly Skill Demo:

Jenny spoke and shared her story on hand quilting.  She had several quilts she has made through the years and offered pointers to members who may be interested in tools to use when hand quilting.  Bohin, a white mechanical pencil, Yli thread and wool batting were mentioned.

 UFO FQ Challenge:

There were NO completions from this month so no winners were chosen.  The Fat Quarters advance to next months pot, and there are 3 individuals signed up for the challenge.

Show and Tell:

Penny shared her Halloween panel wall quilt.

Linda completed her Halloween panel wall quilt.
Linda shared a green table topper.

Next Guild Meeting:  Wednesday, November 13th at Eugene Garden Club, 6:30pm social, 7:00pm meeting.  Jill will be presenting a skill demo titled "inspired by a hankie".  See you then!
