UPCOMING EVENTS:

Sew Night: Wednesday, July 15 at McNail-Riley House at 6:30 pm

We will be collecting and organizing stuff to sell at our Coburg Quilt Show booth! Or bring your own project to work on.

Sew Day: Cancelled for July due to Coburg Quilt Show being the same day

Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show: July 11, 9 am-4 pm www.sistersoutdoorquiltshow.org

There will be a meetup from 11 am to 1 pm of Modern Quilt Guilds at Village Green Park, and Madyson is organizing an EMQG group to go to the show just for the day, planning to arrive at 9 am. Madyson will email those signed up for the carpool.

Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild Meetup: Saturday July 18, 12-2 pm

EMQG and CMQG are meeting for a fun get-together at Sweet Earth Vineyards in Monroe. A tote bag swap will be held so get busy sewing! Bring a quilt you would like to show as there will be clotheslines to hang quilts on. Wine tasting will be available and the event is open to others besides MQG members, so bring a friend. Email EMQG (eugenemqg@gmail.com) or Madyson if you are going and whether you are participating in the tote bag swap, just so they have a head count. There will be carpooling arranged and emails will be sent with further information to those who are signed up to attend.

Coburg Quilt Show: Saturday, July 25 Volunteer signups were held for staffing the EMQG booth throughout the day (in shifts or all day) – thanks for stepping up and helping out! Jenn Fogerty-Gibson is loaning us her booth and Daisy is loaning us her quilt rack to display our Raffle Quilt. Also, an ice chest or two with cold water or drinks would be great. Emails will be sent to those who have signed up. We need stuff to sell! Bring it to Sew Night, email EMQG or Madyson for pick up, or bring to the booth the morning of the Coburg show. See blog post from July 9th for more information.

Lane County Fair: July 22 – 26 Nelda Copsey, the Textile Coordinator, asked for volunteers to help out. Many volunteers are needed to help, and you will get a free fair pass for volunteering! There are several opportunities and dates available, including helping the judges on July 15th, setup after that, and during the fair itself. Email Nelda with questions.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

August EMQG Meeting/Picnic: Our next meeting will be our annual picnic at Friendly Park at 27th and Monroe. It will be a potluck so bring a favorite dish to share, family members or guests, and lawn chairs. We will still do our usual Show and Tell, Bee Blocks, and the Swap!

Julie Johnson announced that the Portland Quilt! Knit! Stitch! Show is still in need of help (paid!). It is being held August 13 – 15 at the Oregon Convention Center and was a great show last year, which was the first time. Go online for more information, www.quilts.com

Daisy, stepping in for Pat Johnston, read the list of those signed up for the September EMQG Retreat. There is still room if anyone else wants to go or wants to bring a friend, but Pat will need the full payment very soon. Email EMQG or Pat if interested.

Raffle Quilt: The top is done and looks great – thanks to all those who made blocks and sewed them together!! Madyson showed it and handed it over to Denise Williams who is doing the quilting on it. Jessica will be doing the binding. We will be displaying it at the EMQG booth during the Coburg Show and selling raffle tickets, with the drawing to be done later in the year. Part of the proceeds will be going to Womenspace.

An email from the Modern Quilt Guild was sent recently to members about the Triangle Quilt Challenge for QuiltCon 2016. Several EMQG members have already signed up.

BEE:

Jayne Scoggin received her blocks for July, and they turned out great. Kim Olsen is the Queen Bee for August, and passed out her block packets. Her theme is “Water” and so the fabrics are blues and greens. She is wanting curved strips pieced together into whatever size block you end up with. They will be fun to see next month!

PERMISSION TO PLAY:

Daisy stepped in for Pat Johnston. Pat will be displaying Permission To Play pieces at the Coburg Quilt Show. The theme for July was “Heat” and we saw a great piece using some hand-dyed fabrics. Stay tuned for the next theme.

SWAP:

July’s swap was a tote bag. There were some fun bags, including a pie tote. Karen McClain announced the August swap will be to bring a favorite notion or tool, costing no more than $10.

SHOW AND TELL:

Donation Quilt: Susan Miner showed our donation quilt (the scrap quilt with blocks of black and white fabrics framing bright colored strips) now that she has finished the quilting and it looks wonderful! It will be on display in our Coburg Show booth. The charity we had planned on donating it to, has folded, so we are looking for suggestions of other charities.

Susan Miner: “Vintage Redux” table runners. Susan has had the pattern published (!) in Generation Q magazine available at Barnes & Noble. The table runners are made using a dish towel in the center. Designed, pieced, and quilted by herself in 2014.

Marilyn Davis: Kid’s quilt top in bright primary colors. She is a beginning quilter and this is her first project! Pieced by herself in 2015.

Linda Delaplain: Runner and place mats for a wedding present. She partially followed a pattern, pieced and quilted them by herself in 2015.

Lap-sized quilt made from a magazine pattern. She put it together using a quilt-as-you-go method. Pieced and quilted by herself in 2015.
