ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Phyliss introduced the officers and new members.

Madyson John shared the new membership cards and pins. Show your card to get a discount at Jean Marie’s Fabrics in Springfield. There may be on-line quilt shops that offer a MQG discount also. Piece By Piece Fabrics in Eugene has supported EMQG by donating goods to us for the Coburg Quilt Show.

Our Sewing Room is continuing to display EMQG quilts through March for a total of two months. You can pick up your quilts on Sew Day, March 28. Contact Madyson if you can’t make it and she will pick it up for you. Our Sewing Room will again be on the Second Friday Art Walk in Springfield on March 13.

The list of EMQG members and their email addresses is on the EMQG community of the Modern Quilt Guild website now. This makes it easier to contact other EMQG members!

The Yard Sale continued at this meeting. Think about saving stuff to sell at our booth at the Coburg Quilt Show in July. Big sellers last year were ziploc bags of fabric scraps, magazines, books, and fabric yardage.

The next Board Meeting will be held Sunday, March 15 at McMenamin’s North Bank at 12 pm.

The PNW (Pacific Northwest) Meetup will be held in Seattle on August 20 – 23. Information has been posted on the blog for those interested in attending (See March 6th post).

QuiltCon 2016 will be held in Pasadena, CA. Book your hotel now at the Westin or another of your choice. It is suggested to fly into Burbank and drive to the hotel. The Westin is in walking distance of the Convention Center. Reservations should be made soon as the hotels will fill up very fast.

QuiltCon 2015: Jenny Bonynge and Nela Barrow attended this year’s QuiltCon in Austin, Texas and gave their impressions and tips for future attendees. Thanks for sharing!

Pat Johnston has been gathering information on locations for a Quilting Retreat. She has found two: one is McKenzie River Mountain Resort in Blue River, and the other is Kellogg Springs near Oakland. There was a lengthy discussion of the two, followed by a sign-up sheet being passed around for those seriously interested in attending. In order to make the retreat a reality, a committee will be formed in the near future. Note: A reservation has now been made at McKenzie River Mountain Resort in Blue River for our Quilting Retreat on September 17th – 20th.

Nelda Copsey is the Lane County Fair Textile Coordinator and shared information. Online registration opens May 4th with entries due July 13th. This year, there are new contests with prizes and some new categories, including a professional category. Contact Nelda with any questions.

Coburg Quilt Show will be held July 25th. Karen McCLain talked about what was learned from last year’s experience. We will have the raffle quilt displayed and will sell tickets, but have the raffle at a later date. We want to be able to sell tickets over a longer period of time.

Jessica held another drawing for those who posted on the MQG group site and this time the winner was Linda Delaplain. The prize was a lovely assortment of mini-charms, fat quarters, patterns, and a book!

Machine for Sale Linda has a friend with a very nice Janome combo sewing/embroidery machine for sale for $900. Contact her if interested.

BEE:

Daisy received her blocks for March. They were wonky strip blocks of various sizes which will give her a bit of a challenge to put together!

Nela Barrow is the Queen Bee for April. She wants the participants to use their own strips to make rainbow-bright 18” blocks representing the block maker. They will be fun to see next month

PROGRAM:

Linda gave an interesting demonstration on making a rug out of 2 ½” strips of fabric and batting using the pattern “Bats In The Rug” by Aunties Two. She will help anyone who brings their strips to Sew Night on March 18th to make their own rug.

SWAP:

The March Swap was embroidered items and there were several including pincushions, bags, a cup holder, and mats, all embroidered by hand or machine.

April’s Swap will be an easy one! Just bring two fat quarters: an ugly or unloved one and a fun modern one.

PERMISSION TO PLAY:

The March theme was “Comfort Zone” and, as usual, there was a great variety of pieces - some representing “in my comfort zone” and some “out”. A fun way to learn a little about the creators! April’s theme will be “High Fiber Diet”. Pat will be attending the Portland SAQA meeting on March 18th and will be taking some of the Permission To Play pieces with her to show them.
