EMQG Meeting Notes 11/12/2014
Presenter: Daisy
Minutes: Missy
Photographer: Shawna
Guest presenters: Elizabeth Bamberger from Portland and the national representative from Oregon and Southern Washington, and Laura Jaszkowski and Diane English, both from Eugene are members of Studio Art Quilt Associates Inc. (SAQA) all came to speak about SAQA as well as they provided our guild with a “trunk show”. The work that they shared was incredible and so diverse…lots of oohs and ahs were heard as they displayed the quilted art masterpieces.
Currently there are 183 Oregon members and over 3,000 members internationally. SAQA holds 4 regional meetings in Oregon. There is also a biannual Oregon meeting, with the next one to be held in Salem in 2016. A national conference is scheduled for Portland in May of 2015. It was also shared that the 3rd Friday of each month is a local meeting, usually held in the Coburg area.

SWAP: This month was 3-D objects and what a selection we had to enjoy. Vases, bags, coasters, boxes and more…again, we have such creative talent in our guild!!!
Next month: a cloth ornament.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Jennifer announced a new show and tell procedure that was discussed and approved at the October board meeting, which involves a sign up either on paper at the guild meeting or via email format. It is asked that each individual will only show one item and this will allow more individuals to be able to share without making such a long meeting.
Jennifer also suggested that next meeting we can make name tags. Our guild has grown and not everyone has one to wear at the meetings. Should be fun!!!
Linda D. and Pat (incoming program director) had an idea for our next guild meeting, in December. A dice game which will involve 5” squares to be “won or lost”…It is requested that the fabric be Christmas holiday in nature (solids which would go with this theme are also allowed), and for each individual interested in
playing to bring 20 squares.
Missy provided an update on Our Sewing Room info regarding using their business as a possible retreat site. A flyer is located in the Guild notebook for more info.
Pat had a great idea for blocks to be made for a donation quilt(s). Black/white with colored strips set in the middle. She will bring them and materials for making some to the Sew Night in November. This is the charity quilt top we will be making and directions can be found on the blog.
Daisy/Pat: Suggested a “Permission To Play”, or also known as “Whatever Flips Your Skirt” challenge. Involves making a 12” block around a theme. Members were interested in this and decided to add it as a monthly project for those interested in challenging themselves. The theme drawn for January: SHELTER
Julie J. announced that she will be part of a holiday art faire December 5th 4-8pm, Dec 6th 10-5 and Dec 7th 11-4, being held at 2821 Moon Mountain Dr. Eugene. If lost, call 541-345-1694. She had flyers to those who were interested in attending.
Jill McK. provided guild members with a “6 square test”, a math challenge to see how may different blocks could be made out of a 2x3 rectangle. It is sure to stretch our minds, once we find them after such a lovely but long evening! HA!!
