March Minutes

EMQG Meeting notes:  March 12, 2014

Presenter:  Phylis Porter

Welcome greeting by Jennifer Fogerty-Gibson

There is a sign-in sheet is now available each month.

Question raised asking when our quilt guild would be officially joining the National Modern Quilt Guild…Jessica Beaudet, Shawna Haynes, Madyson John, and Phylis Porter volunteered to help create the bylaws for the Eugene Modern Quilt Guild which would allow us to join the National Modern Quilt Guild.  Likely fees per person would be approximately $15/yr.

Question was raised regarding information to be placed on the EMQG blog.  It was decided that information wishing to be posted should be brought to the board members who will then decide to allow/disallow it’s posting on the blog.

Our April Queen Bee

We would like to introduce our April Queen Bee, Jessica Beaudet

Tell us a little bit of your quilting history and experience:

Hi, My name is Jessica. I am the grand-daughter of a quilter. I started my first quilt in the basement of my co-op house when I was 18. It was a lovely mix of corduroy, rayon, and polyester, hand-pieced and totally not square. I finally tossed it 3 years ago.  It was a good move.  I got involved in the quilting scene online in 2008 and did many swaps through flickr. Making many small quilts on a tight deadline really honed my construction skills and my binding has improved immensely.

What does quilting means to you?

For a long time quilting was an escape from being a stay at home mom, something I did just for myself. Now it is one form of design expression for me as I explore pattern making and surface design.

Why did you want to join our bee?

I love bees. I love making quilting projects with old friends and new friends and bees are a perfect way to do that.
What was the reason or thoughts behind your choice of block/design/project for the bee?

One of my favorite moments is making something in a new way and saying “OH! That’s how that works." I choose free form improv blocks for my blocks so that it pushes people to try something new that they might not otherwise try.
