Little note!!!! Alert!

I just wanted to get a quick head count...
Our "contract" with EWEB is up for renewal. To get a good first pick I need to get the paperwork in on Tuesday 11/1/11. On the side bar is a poll. If you want to choose, please do so.

****Our November Meeting is 11/16/11***** They had another meeting that bumped us-- totally OK, but I wanted to give you all a heads up!!

More to follow-- I am late for a spooky party-- be back soon!

It is that time again if you are up for it!

This Saturday @ Our Sewing Room  11AM - 5PM (7$)

I am sure we can all find something to sew!

Alas, I won't make it though as the boy child has a soccer game right smack in the middle of the day...I mean seriously what does the YMCA think they are doing messing with my Sew Day like that!

Show 'n Tell Nite

Our monthly meeting was a quiet one last night.  A few of us showed and our darling leader was out for family reasons and we all know how she is the life of the party and keeps us all on track!

Some of us brought hand stitching and stitched and visited.

Some of us just visited.

Some of us brought show 'n tell.

Sorry Agnes, I could have cropped you out, but it was too cute!
This is a quilt she made with the help of an online quilt bee and then she handquilted it.
The colors are fabulous!

Cyndy had some color for our night!
Look at these 2 beauties...like we would expect anything less from her than something gorgeous!

Kelly has a fun quilt made in a block swap. A very nice finish!!

And then our challenge quilts done by Kesch, Cyndy, Denise, & Kelly.
One pattern 4 totally different quilts!

-----------------------------------------------------

Now for the business...wait a minute, we didn't talk business...we slacked, sorry Jessica!

We did talk about the next challenge due in January.  Let me see if I can get this straight, for some reason last night I had a hard time wrapping my bitty brain around this one!

It is the 1 POUND SWAP CHALLENGE.  I tried to Google this for some more info and cannot find any...so here is what you get...my brain regurgitation of what Kelly said last night!  LOL

Find a partner.

Each partner picks 1 pound of 1 color of fabric (appx 3-4 yards).  It can be scraps, but they have to be of a usable size and it has to be all 1 color, i.e. all blue, all green...you get it.  Then you swap half of your color with your partner and vice versa.

Each partner takes their 2 colors (1/2 a pound of each color) and makes something with it.  It doesn't have to be a quilt.  Make whatever you want and then bring it to the show 'n tell at our meeting in January 2012!

You can add other colors, but the main colors have to be the 2 you have swapped.

I cannot wait to see what you all come up with!

Oh...Nancy L.  also told me about a fabulous place to buy fabric online...Thousands of Bolts.  Take a look and see what you can find.  She got an AMAZING deal on backing fabric!

Soo there, we did accomplish a little bit of business in dear Jessica's absence...not much, but some.  We are all thinking about you Jessica & you were missed!

A change of plans?

Hi friends, fellow quilters,

I am writing to you with a request. My mom's cancer is too strong for her body. She will be going to Heaven soon. I am sitting here in her room with the quilt that my children and I made for her on her lap. Quilts give so much comfort, first to the maker and then to the person who receives them. I am so grateful to be a quilter.

I wonder if it would be alright with you to postpone the "big" festivities of our anniversary until the November meeting. I talked with Kelly and we thought that it would still be so wonderful for you all to get together and have a "show and tell" and a hand sewing project night together on Wednesday. It has been such a gift to see all of your work this past year, to talk and laugh with you, to create a wonderful quilting community with you. It really has helped sustain me through this tough, tough year and I hope that it has given each of you something as well.

I will see you in November, but be with you in spirit on Wednesday night. Thank you so much for letting me quilt with you, I have learned a lot.

Getting back on the Paloooza wagon... Happy #1 EMQG!

We're having a Party!! 12 months ago the EMQG was just a glimmer in the eye of one geeky, housebound quilter. Now, here I am, alone no longer, still a little geeky but quilting in lands as exotic as downtown Springfield. And here You are too, joining me on this crazy trip... up down and all around, but isn't it more fun together?

This post is going to be totally peppered with pictures from posts past... a little walk down memory lane, if you will.
Remember the PILE 'O' Potholders??
Our softie inspiration?
It was just last month that we swapped around some pillow cases.
Or can you remember our summer towels?
What about our inspiration for the summer snack mat?
Or the needle books?
And there is nothing quite like a nice zippered pouch...
Or those charms we made?
Another round of snack mats anyone?
And those cute pincushions that started our swap-mania off, oh so many months ago...

Have you made anything for the party yet? Anything that you want to donate to the raffle? I found some quilting books at my house that may like to come home with you... and other people have donated some fun quilting tools. My thought is, what is not serving me could very well make one of my quilting friends a happy camper. It is also so fun to take home treats that one of us made, isn't it? I use my swap pot holders from Kelly everyday, they always make my cooking chores much more cheery. So, please bring your gently used books/notions and/or your new swap projects and we will have a ourselves a little raffle.

Didn't you mention something about food Jessica?
OH YES I DID! This month's meeting will also be a potluck. Please bring what you love, savory or sweet, to share. I have some utensils and possibly some napkins. We could also use some plates. If you would like, leave a comment with your potluck tasty then those of us who are undecided can be inspired to fill in the gaps.

Weren't there going to be fun and silly activities?
OF COURSE! Here are just a few of the ones that we have come up with thus far:

1)Swap a Scrap table: bring some of your scraps of fabric that you like, but perhaps are just tired of looking at and swap with your friends for something that you want to use "RIGHT NOW!" (unclaimed leftovers will be donated.)

2)5" Charm Swap: Friendship quilts are always fun. Make your own with charms swapped with your EMQG friends. Bring 5" charm squares and swap-- you bring 10, you take home 10 etc.

3)Name Tags: Make a fun name tag with scraps, a sharpie, and an iron. Wear it tonight, take it home and jazz it up-- and wear it next month and we will ALL remember your name!

4)Raffle Raffle-- Yes, I did write raffle twice, it is just funnier that way. I pretty much explained the idea for this above-- if there are any questions please send me an email or post a comment.
.
5)High jinx and mayhem-- just something that goes along with being a Modern Quilter!

I hope this helps the focus the festivities... I have been wanting to post but the pneumonia fairy has visited our house the past 2 weeks and 3 of 5 of us have been hit. I am continuing to hope that my cough will just stay annoying and non-feverish. In between meals and administering meds, I have been "collecting" fabric online... it is a bad habit, but makes for such lovely packages coming in the mail. (I love saying "collecting", it sounds so much better than hoarding!)
