A plethora of potholders!!
To be totally honest I just finished 30 minutes of "unquilting" a project that I had spent a chunk of time quilting... how annoying is that?! I thought that finishing this post was definitely preferable to ripping out any more thread! We have some exciting things on the horizon and I want to get you all on board. Here is what I have been hearing about:
*Project Modern Challenge 2-- This time around there is a monochromatic theme, which sounds intriguing to me. The due date is March 31. The details are all here. It would be fun to have a contingent from the Eugene Modern Quilt Guild enter. We could root each other on (a.k.a. make sure we finish) and maybe even win the big prize a book by Malka Dubrawsky of Stitch and dye fame and a delicious box of 100 FQs of Robert Kaufman Kona solids.
*Robert Kaufman (of Kona solids fame) is VERY interested in supporting the Modern Quilt Guild movement so they want to supply us with some fabric for a challenge. To get us started, the rough parameters are:
1)A quilt top or quilt using only solid fabrics (the fabrics that you supply do not have to be Kona solids, but do need to be solids, not tone-on-tones or marbled)
2)Must use at least half of the charm pack colors (22 charms)
3)Top must be at least 36"X 36"
4)Tops/quilts ready for the June 8th meeting
I can get charm packs for anyone in the group that is interested in participating. Think about it. To give us plenty of time for the fabric turn around please let me know by February 15th if you are interested in giving the SOLIDS Challenge a shot.
*Getting savvy with the EMQG on the Internet-- During the meeting last week, I saw a bunch of eyes glazing over when I mentioned "flickr" and "blogging" and using technology to enrich our lives as quilters and guild members. Being virtually connected is a component of being a "Modern Quilter". There is so much to see and do with regards to quilting "out there" on the "net" or the web, or what ever geeks are calling it these days, that it can only help to increase your skills and our sense of community as a group. I would like fear and/or irritation at the computer to not be a hindrance to people participating in the EMQG functions. We can not get web access at EWEB, but there is access at OUR SEWING ROOM. I propose that those of you interested in some help, making sense of flickr, or just moral support as you try to navigate it yourself, come to the Sew Night on February 3rd or the Sew Day on February 26. We can sew AND bring laptops to get "hooked up" (I will be bringing mine to share, and I bet some other people can bring theirs too.)
I am still working on getting this site up and running, please bear with me. The Show & Tell link is working and so far I have January's Show & Tell posted. There is room here for your ideas and effort. I think that our group needs to have a second in command for times when I might be unable to run the meetings (I don't really plan on that, but last week I was really sick at the beginning of the week and thought that canceling the meeting would have stunk.) Think about it. Maybe you want to volunteer, the time commitment won't be too great. :)
Until next week!
As I was basking in the afternoon sun, (listening to my kids scream at each other, but hey, it was sunny!) I realized that I forgot to put the link in properly (I linked back to here, but forgot the other) Sorry, I know that you were all so excited. So the link really is on the sidebar this time..... really..... I mean, really, it is..... I swear!
Show and tell...
There is a new link on the sidebar for the show and tell page. You can look at that while I finish up the list of things I need to post about! (there are some exciting things coming up!!)

Moving day it is a coming!!!
We are moving (if you are on the blogspot site then you are at our new home). I am hoping that all the heavy lifting will be done this weekend. The truck is coming Friday night. I should have most the goodies from the shelves unpacked and loaded up again by late Sunday night. There are some little treats over here. Go have a snack. Maybe while you are there you can take a tour, and join up, it is free after all. I am leaving our old home "active" as long as we need it, but change is good (that is what I keep telling myself.)
Just try it you will like it.
I liked the way this guild's pages were set up... take a look, shoot me off an email with any other ideas you might have. (I think that I will miss these silly emoticons!)

Like a phoenix from the ashes...
Hey there, dramatic enough for you??
Well, it is 9:01 on Monday, January 17th, 2011, we are having our first meeting of the new year... on a different DAY, AND at a different place, and we have no web site to relay info or directions or... Whatever. After much thought, it has been working on one of my back-o-the-brain processors, I am just going to move us over here to Blogger. I am familiar with this set-up, there are no ads to "get rid of your belly fat", it is just a "kinder, gentler" place. For now it will just be the blog for meeting info and what not. I am going to check out some of the other bells and whistles and we are going to get this show BACK on the proverbial road.
For January (I know some of this I have repeated in various emails over the past few days, sorry.):
We are meeting THIS Wednesday, January 19th, the usual time 6:30 for some chit-chat and 7:00 for the "big time" business portion of the evening. We are meeting in the EWEB Community room. It is to the left side of the fountain, if you are coming in from the parking lot.
Our agenda will go as follows:
7- 7:05 --Hokey Pokey (not really, I have a hard time standing while shaking it all about.)
7:05-7:15 --Share your latest or your greatest favorite sewing/quilting book (bring it to show)
7:15-7:25 --Swap some potholders (please wrap them in a brown bag of some sort.)
7:25 --Fantastical Show and tell
8:00 Exit stage left-- see ya at the Sew Day on Saturday, January 22, 2011 @ 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. (cost $5)
I am excited about what this new year will bring, see you soon!!

Testing, testing..... 1, 2, 3.....
(image from geekmom.com) (it is totally NOT my website, I swear!)
Hello friends!! I have been doing all sorts of OTHER things besides the computer, maybe that is why there has been radio silence from 'round here. The winter break around here was anything but.... my house was full of loud kids and some kind of lingering stomach ailment....and THAT is enough said about that. I am still amazed by the amount of time that an illness can linger in a house of 5. That said, I did make like a million more of those hedgie pincushions over the last month. They are just too cute AND super easy and mindless. I also made sure to spend a portion of New Year's day making a little wall quilt, just to get the year started off on the right foot. I hope that you all welcomed the New Year in a fun way too. (We told the kids that we were celebrating the New Year with Halifax, Nova Scotia style-- so they were in bed and asleep by 9!)
This is just a warm up blog post, to fight the powers of inertia, to get my EMQG mental juices flowing, and to be a little reminder about the Sew Night this week. I hope to see some of you this Thursday @ 6 @ OUR SEWING ROOM. Also I am going to get in touch with those of you who had some knowledge to share in the coming weeks to flesh out a calendar for our meetings this year. I am excited about the new meeting space this month, remember we are meeting on the 19th (one week later than usual). We are also going to do a potholder swap, I am in desperate need of some interesting potholders. I could make one to keep and one to swap. (Hey, that's the ticket!) See you soon!
