JAN 9th Meeting Notes

Pioneer Quilters Annual Quilt Show

The 37th annual Pioneer Quilters Quilt Show will be held at the Lane County Historical Museum, Tuesday, April 23-Sunday, April 28, from 10:00-4:00.

Jessica is speaking on Wednesday of that week...and they would like us to display some of our modern quilts alongside their traditional quilts.

Tradition meets modern, sounds fun!  We will keep you posted about the show and Jessica's speaking times!

~  Mary Jo announced that we as a group could display quilts in The Sewing Room.  If you have a quilt to display then we need to bring them.  You will need a 4" hanging sleeve on the back and a rod to hang it with.   A label is a good idea also.

~There is a signup sheet for the 2013 Bee.  If you are interested we are getting the new year under way.

~ Some of our ladies showed off their progress on the Madrona Road Challenge projects.  They are due at the Feb. 13th mtg.  If you would like to be considered for the Michael Miller challenge you can find the Flickr group here to enter by January 31, finished, 3 layers quilted!

Charlene's Madrona Road challenge start!         Other side of the bag-- Denise's Madrona Road Challenge

Kim's Madrona road challenge start! Jenny is done with her Madrona Road Challenge

Nelda's Madrona Road challenge start!

All projects in progress...more to come at our next meeting!

~SWAP~

Some fabulous pincushions were swapped tonight; if you do not participate in the swaps I would encourage you to join in!

It is always a surprise with our brown bags.

Look at all this cuteness.  Those owls!

And Susan's unique pincushion on a re-purposed bed spring!  Love it!

Swap for February -- Hearts

SWAP for March Grocery Bags - Especially in light of Eugene's upcoming ban on plastic grocery bags!  Here are some great links for tutorials on making your own,  a  whole list of tutorials!

** A little reminder about the swaps; always swap an item you would want to receive, use modern fabrics and ideas (we are a modern quilt guild after all) **

~SHOW N TELL~

Kira showed off her quilts that she based with good ol' washable Elmers Glue.  In her experience it worked great, was not stiff, quilted up wonderful and washed out beautifully!  Her quilts are adorable, so it definitely works!

Mario is DONE!! Nice Work Kira!!

Her amazing Mario finish!

Have you seen the recent Instagram quilt along?  #scrappytripalong went viral!  Talk about a modern quilt along!  See more here on Flickr.  Here is the tutorial used, which is found on Bonnie Hunter's site.   If you would like to see Bonnie Hunter in person she will be local at Emeraly Valley Quilters meeting in September.

Diane's finish that has literally taken her thru many states to get done.

Anne's warm strip project from the Strip dice game!

Anne's fabrulous top from the strip poker game in December.  Great use of neutral print for the borders, we were all wowed that the print was ghosts!

Finally Finished-- Diane's trees

Another finish for Diane...she didn't feel it was modern, but it was finished and she wanted to share.

Susan shared a piece quilted for a client

Susan showed off a clients beautiful quilt.

Upcoming a "How to use the Hex n More Ruler" demo.  Have you seen these?

An idea for a future show and tell theme:  “Finally Finished”.  Do you have a project that has been hiding away, never to see the light of day, haunting you with its need to be done?  Finish that baby up and bring it to show off!

If you are still here, long post I know, we do not have a sew day this month.  Instead if anyone is interested we tossed around the idea of going to the Stitches in Bloom quilt show on 1/27/2013.
