Hi Ladies,
I'd like to introduce our May Bee member ~ Kim O. Many of your know her from her more famous roll of working with Jessica at Water Treatment! :-) I can hear many of you giggling right now. As usual I sent Kim a few questions to answer so you can get to know her a little better.
Q: Tell us a little about your quilting history and experience.
Kim said: I have been sewing most of my life. My friend Kelly used to thread my needles and tie the knots when we were sewing doll clothes in grade school. We both made skirts in 4H in about 5th grade. Kelly still has her skirt! I continued making garments and then Halloween costumes for my children when they came along. I did not start actually quilting until about 10 years ago. My skills have come slowly and through much practice. The helpful quilting community makes this such a joyful experience.
Q: What does quilting mean to you?
Kim said: Quilting has come to mean a lot to me. Lately there have been a great deal of awful life experiences happening around my life, and having the ability to create with color and line and just sewing has been very helpful and at times therapeutic. If I could just get myself to finish something, I think that would help too!!
Q: Why did you want to join our Bee?
Kim said: I thought that joining a Bee would allow me to be challenged and to expand my abilities and do things that I thought were outside my comfort zone. In a good way, of course. I enjoy the camaraderie of the Bee ladies, and maybe by the end of the year, I might recognize your faces. LOL.
Q: Tell us the thoughts behind your choice for this months block/design/project.
Kim said: For these blocks, I would like you to experiment with the flying geese. Challenge yourself to try something new, maybe a new way of doing them, maybe work on the points, or do some crazy wonky ones where you let points go where they may! Try paper piecing them in an arc, or lay out some curvy lines and draw in some geese and piece them, if you like. Let them fly straight or wonky, radiating out or in. Do as few or as many as you like. I don't see a specific block size here.
There are tutorials out there. I am a Ginger Monkey has some good ones in her tutorial section. The Sometimes Crafter has a paper piece arc and good tutorial under her sampler quilt subheading. It's the last one, I think. Have fun, and thank you so much.
